Qurbani 2019 Benefits 700,000

At Eid-ul-Adha this year, our teams across the world carried out Qurbanis on your behalf that benefited more than 700,000 people in need.

The 2019 distributions were nearly double last year’s figure thanks to the generosity of our donors, supporters and partners who provided 14,794 cow shares (more than 2,000 cows) and nearly 11,000 goats for Qurbani.

In total, this translated into the provision of meat at this blessed time of year for the equivalent of 703,128 beneficiaries in 15 countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Each package of Qurbani meat distributed by Islamic Help’s teams provides a household with enough meat to last a whole week.

The beneficiary numbers are based on the calculation that each cow share (there are 7 shares in a cow for Qurbani with one share per person) can provide enough meat for approximately 25 or more individuals. Each goat, which is one person’s Qurbani, can provide meat to feed approx. 30 people.

Beneficiaries included people in some of the world’s poorest communities, widows, orphans, the elderly and refugees. For many, the blessed days of Eid mark the only time of year when they can enjoy meat dishes.

Qurbani, the act of sacrificing a livestock animal, takes place on the three days of Eid-Ul-Adha (also known as the Festival of Sacrifice), after Eid prayers. It marks the conclusion of Hajj and honours the tradition of the Prophet Ibrahim (alaihis salaam) who was prepared to sacrifice his son, Ismail (alaihis salaam), for the sake of Allah.

Qurbani also promotes the practice of helping people in need and serves as a means to look out for the poor, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged.

Islamic Help has been privileged and humbled to provide and distribute Qurbani meat on your behalf to so many people in need.

We would like to thank all our supporters and donors for their generosity and sacrifices, may Allah bless and reward you all.
