Know Your Rights
We are all born into this world free from sin and judgement, and we should all receive a fair and equal standing in life. We have loving mothers, fathers, siblings, aunts, uncles and grandparents to name but a few; people who are in our lives, protecting us from unnecessary harm and pain as we grow and develop into children and subsequently adults.
The people that surround us are there to look after and care for us, guide and teach us through good times and bad, to love us unconditionally and support us in every way that they can. We are who we are because of their love and support, and because we live in a part of the world where we are all entitled to basic human rights such as food, shelter and education.
We all have the right to freedom, equality, and a nationality. We all have the right to a bed to sleep in, food to eat and a place to call home. We all have the right to freedom of thought, privacy and democracy and to live a life free from discrimination. We have a right to a free, and fair world, where we are innocent until proven guilty, where we are free to get married and enjoy a family, where we are at liberty to a life free from harm.
Despite humanity pushing for these human rights in all areas around the world, there are still many regions that are afflicted by unnecessary war and violence. There are still hundreds and thousands of people daily affected by tragedy, disease and poverty. There are still far too many children that are orphaned, homeless and alone as a consequence of action taken by others outside of their control.
We know our rights, but what about theirs?
Children should be able to enjoy their education, enjoy interacting with each and other and playing together. Children should be able to sleep soundly at night, surrounded by people that they love. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.
