Donate Your Zakat-ul-Fitr

One of the five pillars of Islam, and an act which is obligatory upon all able Muslims, zakat is an essential part of the Islamic faith. We all know the importance of our zakat, but do you know how your donation can benefit the lives of others around the world?

Similarly, Zakat-ul-Fitr is another duty which is required from all Muslims. This donation should be paid prior to Eid salaah on Eid-ul-Fitr – the celebration marking the end of the Holy month of Ramadan – and given to those in need.

When the time comes to pay your zakat, you can use our handy zakat calculator to work out how much you owe before making your payment.

Who is Eligible for Zakat-ul-Fitr?

In contrast to zakat, Zakat-ul-Fitr (also known as fitrana) is eligible from every Muslim who has food in excess of their needs – men and women, children and adults alike. If a child or family member does not have their own wealth equal to the current Nisab value, the head of the household can make the payment in their stead. However, if a member of the family has the necessary finances, they should pay their Zakat-ul-Fitr from their own funds.

Of course, the biggest difference is that zakat can be paid at any time of the year (although many Muslims do choose to donate their zakat during Ramadan as the rewards for giving at this time are so much greater) whereas Zakat-ul-Fitr must be paid before the commencement of Eid prayers at the absolute latest.

This specific timescale ensures that we all reap the benefits and rewards offered to us for giving generously during this blessed month. Not only will your kind-heartedness bring countless rewards both now and in the Hereafter, but each donation gives someone in need the opportunity to celebrate a comfortable Eid too.

How Does Your Donation Help?

This Ramadan, your zakat can go directly towards helping vulnerable people all over the world. Brighten their lives and commit to making a difference by donating with Islamic Help – when we join together, our brothers and sisters will directly benefit from our much-needed support and assistance.

Our Ramadan campaigns are zakat-eligible, meaning that you can easily make your donation while supporting a good cause and ongoing charitable endeavour. So, this year, take the opportunity to make your payment and reflect in the knowledge that your donation will be going to where the need is greatest.

Use our zakat calculator to work out the amount that you owe and support your brothers and sisters all over the world this Ramadan.
