Deeds with Great Reward in Islam

For those that follow it the truthful way, with the Holy Qur’an as their guidance, Islam is a straightforward, simple religion and a humble way of life. There are countless deeds mentioned in the Holy Qur’an that hold great reward in return for those that go out of their way to be charitable and this is an important part of life as a Muslim. There are so many things we do in our daily lives purely for the sake of humanity that bring us great reward.

Here are a few examples of such acts:

The Act of Giving Optional Charity

It is narrated by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that giving in charity wipes out sins just as water extinguishes fire; how beautiful is it that? Just the act of helping someone else can wipe out some of our worldly sins?

It is also narrated that giving to charity behind closed doors (in secret) will protect a person from an evil end and relieves us from Allah SWT’s wrath.

Helping Widows and Orphans

In the same way, the reward for those who offer assistance to widows and the needy is equal to that of someone who struggles for the sake of Allah SWT Himself. In addition to this, they also benefit from the same rewards that are reaped by someone who fasts and prays all night continuously.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) stated that he who nurtures and helps an orphan will be as close as entwined fingers with him in Paradise. The simple act of just stroking an orphans head can soften the hardness of one’s heart.

Sadaqah Jaariyah

The act of giving that keeps on continuously giving is known as sadaqah jaariyah. For instance, sponsoring an orphan or donating towards the construction of a water plant are great examples of ongoing charity.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) narrates that the act of sadaqah jaariyah is one of the three solitary deeds that will continue to give rewards after one’s death; in short, as long as others continue to benefit from that donation, you will continue to reap the rewards.

The other two deeds that gain rewards after death are the sharing of beneficial knowledge and the prayers from a child or orphan that prays for you.

So, overall, giving to those in need is far more beneficial to us; both in this world and in our Hereafter.

“Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah SWT is similar to that of a seed which grows seven spikes; each spike is like a hundred grains. Allah SWT multiplies the reward for whomever He wills – for he is vast and knowing.”

- The Holy Qur’an (2:261)
