Completing the Great Birmingham Run for the Eco Village
A quartet of Islamic Help staff and volunteers today completed the Birmingham Run half marathon to give a further boost to our pioneering Eco Village.
The four were all running to raise funds for the Eco Village in Tanzania and all of them completed the 13-mile Morrisons Great Birmingham Run. The event attracts about 20,000 runners from across the country each year with the course starting from the city centre to Bournville and back.
The Islamic Help four included (above, from left) fundraising and communications director Zaheer Khan; orphans programme officer Imran Boota and volunteer Taher Ahmed. The other volunteer to complete the course was Farha Siddiqui.
It was Taher’s first half marathon and he completed it in a time of 02:15:08. “The run was one of the greatest experiences that I have had in my life,” he said.
“The journey up to it, the training and especially raising the money for the amazing cause of the Eco Village in Tanzania. When running I couldn’t help but think how fortunate we are and how blessed we are that we have all the essentials without even thinking about it.
“Something like clean running water. People in third world countries sometimes have to travel the distance of a half marathon to get the essentials just to survive.
“Alhamdulillah with this great cause of the Eco Village being co-ordinated by Islamic Help, it will make life a whole lot easier for those that are less fortunate.
“It’s an amazing cause and I would like to thank Islamic Help for introducing and showing me all the great things the charity has done and continues to do. I hope to still raise money for this cause throughout the lifetime of the project and I pray Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala makes it easier for the amazing volunteers and project managers of Islamic Help to complete this amazing cause.”
