Civic Recognition for Islamic Help
Islamic Help and its partners received civic recognition from the Lord Mayor of Birmingham for their work in helping their local communities.
Councillor Shafique Shah invited staff and volunteers to Birmingham Council House to acknowledge their contributions to local projects which have helped improve the quality of life for residents in the city. They included the clean-up in August 2014 of the Pepper Garden, a communal garden for residents in Balsall Heath which was visited by the Lord Mayor.
As well as Islamic Help, the delegation to the Council House included representatives from the Balsall Heath Forum and partner organisations including Hope, Feast and the Accord housing group, along with pupils from Golden Hillock School.
Tea and biscuits with the First Citizen was followed by a tour of the Council House including the Council Chamber and the Banqueting Suite. Among the highlights of the occasion was the Balsall Heath Forum’s leading light Abdullah Rehman and Islamic Help volunteers being allowed to wear the Mayoral chain of office.
